If anything is a social construct it surely is the notion of human rights. Yet nobody talks about them that way. People talk about human rights as if they were eternal and absolute, just waiting out there in the ether for people to gradually apprehend them.
I think George Carlin had a bit on this. He said you have no rights, just temporary privileges that can be taken away at any time.
