If I may offer some advice to those who treat/evaluate dysphoric individuals who are considering transition - ask your patients to seriously think on the unchangeable aspects that go beyond desiring to obtain the outward appearance of the opposite sex 1/x

You can get HRT and however many surgeries you desire. You can *look* like and be perceived as the opposite sex. But a woman will never truly experience what it is to be male, and a man will never truly experience what it is to be female. 2/x

I obtained the appearance of a male and "lived as" one for 5 years. But it was all superficial. I'm not male. I'll never remember being a wee boy, go through male puberty, have a real penis, father kids - because while I *look* like a male, HRT/surgery didn't *make* me one 3/x

You will never experience what it is to be the opposite sex beyond simply resembling one, and that is important to stress to those considering transition. I needed to hear this when I was being evaluated at the gender clinic, but I didn't. I think it would have helped me. 4/x

If you're struggling with gender dysphoria and are considering transition, ask yourself this: is passing as the opposite enough for you? If yes, great! I hope it works out If not, it's time to slow down and do some serious thinking before you make any irreversible changes. 5/5

Thank you, this is such valuable insight. I imagine I know the answer but I'm curious to know what you think of this new law they're trying to push through in Canada (similar ones elsewhere) that would make this kind of counseling vulnerable to a label of "conversion therapy"

Any law that would deem compassionate and honest counselling conversion therapy is incredibly dangerous & will result in the harm of the very people said law wants to protect As irreversible changes are inevitable with transition, therapists *must* be able to be honest about it

Been dodging attacks for years. Birth body skeletons = dead body skeletons no matter what body topography and hormonal interventions. Essential.! Trans-identity is a subjective fantasy in response to nurture and social media. Arc of gender expression doesn't change birth sex. ARC

It’s the difference between dysphoria about your self identity and ‘dysphoria’ about how everyone else sees and responds to you? Can they be separated I wonder?

Thank you this is what the trans community should be about. Completely agree with this, while someone may have an outward appearence of the opposite sex, they will never know the struggles of said sex.

This is precisely what the UK Keira Bell case was about. The Tavistock Clinic was offering treatment that was poorly evidenced, used drugs off-licence, & didn’t meet Gillick competence legal standards of informed consent. We need nuanced, informed dialogues, not gender wars.
