Regarding detrans stories being used as a weapon against trans people: The existence of detransitioners does not mean all trans people will experience regret. Many, many trans people are out yhere living normal, productive lives and are very happy with there transition. 1/

There are detrans folk. Trans people who regret. One doesn't invalidate the other. Neither should be silenced. Med transition is serious, very taxing on the body. Nobody should undergo it without serious thought. I didn't do it without serious thought, yet still regret it. 2/

So what does this mean? It means medical transition should remain medical, and not veer into the realm politics. Evaluations must be intense and thorough. Treatment for co-morbid conditions must be offered. Alternative treatments for dysphoria must be explored. 3/

It's not transphobic to demand caution - it's humane and the duty of every professional in the field to make sure nobody is fast-tracked into irreversible treatment. You can be 100% certain transition is for you, as I thought, and still come to regret it. Caution is vital. 4/4

How can a person know. If you thought you were 100% certain and yet you detransitioned. What areas do you think you didn't include in your decision making process? I'm not against transitioning. I'm critical of the systems in place, ideology driving it, lack of medical data...

I turned up at the clinic with a lot of baggage that the psychiatrist was aware of but didn't explore. I believed transition was the best cure for me, I think it would have done a world of good had I been advised to consider my other issues first before proceeding with HRT.

All humans have baggage. For what is life if challenges aren't presented? Some things create scars that we aren't ready/prepared to pull back the bandage yet. Even if that wound is still open. Finding the right psychiatrist that will listen/hear and encourage healing is a gift.

I never did find the right psychiatrist/therapist. I haven't seen a professional since deciding to detransition and, mentally, I'm the healthiest I've been in years. Everyone's different, but for me, I'll never waste my time with a mental health professional again.
