There are detrans folk. Trans people who regret. One doesn't invalidate the other. Neither should be silenced. Med transition is serious, very taxing on the body. Nobody should undergo it without serious thought. I didn't do it without serious thought, yet still regret it. 2/
So what does this mean? It means medical transition should remain medical, and not veer into the realm politics. Evaluations must be intense and thorough. Treatment for co-morbid conditions must be offered. Alternative treatments for dysphoria must be explored. 3/
It's not transphobic to demand caution - it's humane and the duty of every professional in the field to make sure nobody is fast-tracked into irreversible treatment. You can be 100% certain transition is for you, as I thought, and still come to regret it. Caution is vital. 4/4
