Just because you're trans does not mean you get to speak for the trans community. It's a big community - there will be differing opinions among its members, and that's a good thing. Never aim to be part of a political hive mind. Practice what you preach; embrace diversity 2/3
Keep that in mind when you attack someone for transphobia simply because some trans activists claimed so, even though you haven't personally heard their views. Your community can be wrong. You can disagree with the majority, and that's a good thing. Be you, not your group 3/3
I so much agree with this, but (or because?) it cuts right across the IDpol logic that makes trans a useful ideological tool. If identities are not constituencies, ripe for clientelism and patronage, they are politically useless to the governing classes. As they should be.
It's one thing to pull together with others u share an identity with to achieve a goal that affects u all. It's another thing to base ur politics on ur identity as an end in itself. The first can be progressive if the goal is universal rights. The second is always regressive.
