I also identified as a lesbian for 10 years but only just recently realised I'm bi. But rather than being happy that I'd learned something about myself, I felt shame. I was *betraying* my identity - my label, that I'd held dear for so long. 2/3

Labels are poisonous if you make them the most important thing about you. We're complex creatures. We should be able to change & evolve at any age without fear of being labelled a liar or a traitor to said labels. And the worst culprit tends to be ourselves. Be kind to you 3/3

Sometimes you just have to try and see. Theres no way of knowing how you will feel/be and whether something will work for you or not. Don't beat yourself up, you've been brave and tried and been brave and declined.

Totally agree with you. We are all just “me”. This ever-increasing list of identities is bamboozling, especially for youngsters who are finding out who “me” is. It is almost like gang culture, lured in then you don’t get to leave. Stay well, stay free. X

Labels are to identify yourself to others not to make you who you are. It’s why I hate the word “identify “.

Yes! I don't identify as a woman. I am a woman. Which, should, other than telling you my sex, be utterly meaningless. But we've burdened it with so much cultural garbage we stagger under the weight of it all.
