I think for me it was because my body image was so bad, I didn’t want to imagine myself in the scene. If there was a woman there, that would be someone to compare my body to, reminding me of everything I hated about myself.
Each to one's own, I suppose. I don't personally understand the interest of women for m/m or in men for f/f. With no character to imagine yourself as, what's the point? It's a little beyond me.
