"Then one day my five-year-old asked me if she could be a girl. Contrary to what some might think, my first thoughts weren't 'Oh, my child is trans'. I just thought that my kid, wanted to try being a girl for a while." You were right the first time, chief.
The other day you claimed you're not against trans people transitioning. You must know many of us would have killed to transition in childhood - why outright deny that?
I'm not agaisnt trans adults transitioning. Children are another matter entirely because they are immature, incredibly suggestable and still developing both mentally and physically. A 5 year old cannot even begin to comprehend a complex concept like their gender identity.
I literally believed I'd grow up into a girl at that age. I didn't have the language to explain how I felt, because nobody was educating kids on such issues even in my teens. I wish badly someone had told me just once.
I'm sorry to hear that, but the ancedotal shouldn't take priority over the facts. And it's a fact that most dysphoric kids, if subject to watchful waiting, outgrow their dysphoria. If I may add my ancedotal experiance, I was 100% sure transition was for me in my 20s. It wasn't.
Except the data doesn't actually show that. The 80% desistence myth came about from a study looking at merely GNC youth who never expressed a full transgender identity with the "persistent, insistent and consistent" standard. Of course many were "just" gay.
I don't know if the stats are as high as 80%, but multiple studies have found a majority desistence rate, with different numbers depending on their sample size. The 2013 Dutch study found that by age 15, 47 kids out of 127 persisted, 52 desisted, and 28 were lost to follow-up.
