For those of you that pick and choose when to honor pronouns, how do you do so without seeming intentionally mean? I may not agree with the movement always but I'll always call someone what they ask me to.

Agreed. I always use preferred pronouns. Being an old homo, it comes natural from way back. But for people like Jessica Yaniv et al, I use words that better describe them, if I have mention them at all. I do trip up with 'they/them' however. Old grammar rules die hard.
