We absolutely require more research into detransition, it's far more complicated than, "well, mistakes can happen." 1. There's genuine misdiagnosis, when the individuals body dysmorphia, self-loathing etc. is mistaken as gender dysphoria by their well-meaning psychiatrist.

3. There's people, especially teenagers, who know they don't have gender dysphoria but who learn scripts from online blogs to get the diagnosis, due to a desire to be accepted into the trans community. The goal is belonging and acceptance - to be embraced as brave and special.

I'm sure there's a lot more. We really know next to nothing about the topic, yet people are reacting to the surge in referrals to gender clinics with "affirm! Always affirm!" Why? This is dangerous. We need to know more before we start permanently altering people.
