2. There's genuine gender dysphoria that, for some reason, is not alliviated by transition - or worse yet, exacerbated by medical transition. Why does transition help some but harm others with the same condition?

3. There's people, especially teenagers, who know they don't have gender dysphoria but who learn scripts from online blogs to get the diagnosis, due to a desire to be accepted into the trans community. The goal is belonging and acceptance - to be embraced as brave and special.

I'm sure there's a lot more. We really know next to nothing about the topic, yet people are reacting to the surge in referrals to gender clinics with "affirm! Always affirm!" Why? This is dangerous. We need to know more before we start permanently altering people.

And more research into what gender dysphoria actually is
-
I believe it's a symptom. Eating disorders and self-injury (which we often suffer from as well) can be symptomatic of all sorts of different underlying issues, it's not a single thing. Gender dysphoria/transgenderism is at least 3 clearly different phenomena, likely more.

My 14 year was diagnosed with GD by a very experienced doctor. His recommendation was to treat the underlying issues(depression and anxiety) and wait a beat. Did not recommend HRT. My concern is that he was in the minority. The internet tells you that GD=transition. Why is that?

Controversial opinion but I feel like people are more or so celebrating rather than evaluating the topic at hand.

Unfortunately, I agree. It's best we all just cuddle up and sing songs of praise because affirmation is just that great. Nevermind the ever growing sea of red flags that keep popping up all over the trans discussion.

My therapist in 2003 was quite good but she wouldn't write me a GID letter because she said she really had never dealt with trans people before. She was also my FTM partner's therapist and we did couples therapy. So we had to go to an LGBT clinic in the city.
-
We did and we've both been transitioned a long time and it worked out. But she was able to be honest that she didn't know enough about GID/GD to write a diagnosis. I wonder if therapists these days can even do that. It seems they're forced to or activists will come after them.
