To strike a happy medium between "make dysphoric adults jump through hoops to transition" and 'let traumatised people cut off healthy body parts," we need to acknowledge that there isn't just one path here. Transition helps some people. It hurts others. Let's help both groups.
The issue is that many, maybe most, psychiatrists are too afraid to question the merits of transition in case activists come for their jobs. This was a medical issue between Dr and patient, but now it's become a political issue for people to fight over.
