I love my mum and I know she loves me but we don't discuss my detransition. I think it's hard for her because she didn't object when she knew transition wasn't for me. Today she visited unannounced to gift me a plant. Her way of checking in without asking difficult questions.

for clarity: she had initially supported transitioning?

In her mind she knew I was making a mistake but she supported my decision with words to the effect of "do what you have to do."

Do you think you would have paid any heed if she had been more opposed? My mam tried to stop me making a huge mistake, but I couldn't hear her warnings as anything other than something against me that I could stick my heels in about.

I honestly can't say, by I'm leaning towards no, I probably would have ignored her and may even have distanced myself from her out of spite. I was a resentful, angry bam back then, which she realised.

I'm hearing the mom daughter split as a common thing. In our case, my daughter distanced herself a bit more after each Thursday visit with affirmation therapist Mary Collins.

Affirmation tends to have that affect, especially if the person being affirmed is a case of rapid onset - usually, they've been knees deep in online pro-transition blogs for a while by then. Are you and your daughter closer now or is she still distancing?

thank you for asking (I know from your video you are kind and decent) Somewhat better, thanks. Longtime on tumblr ROGD YA She is still distancing some so I am learning to go slow etc. (I'm retired teacher so repetition and hounding are in the blood unfortunately lol

That's really rough, my thoughts to you and your family. It's amazing (and terrifying) just how much power of influence the internet can have on young people. It's a phenomenon I don't think we fully respect yet.

yes, thank you for this --I feel especially close to those who have been through all of this and I admire people's willingness to be open. Healing from that, I believe.
