A friend of mine is doing this with a 12yo with mental disabilities - any evidence-based resources I can provide her? She truly thinks she is protecting her child from suicide.

Look up Professor Michael Biggs of Oxford. He found that there's no psychological improvement attributed to blockers, in fact after a year on them there's a significant increase in the rate of children experiencing thoughts of self-harm and suicide.

I think the suicide part is scary,but the proper response is to take the child to a non affirming therapist to determine the extent of it and ask them some questions. Ask
