I've been called both "hen" and "mate" by strangers so many times over the past few days, I have no idea what I'm generally perceived as. Older women seem to clock that I'm female the quickest, which is interesting.

I've heard "hen" is gender neutral pronoun in Sweden. Purhaps they were Swedish.

"hen" is a very common feminine term in Scotland, similar to "love." But that's interesting!
