There’s something tragic about the belief that someone’s desire to alter themselves, with hormones & surgery, is their way of being their "true self." They’re medically modifying what they are because they don't like it. That’s the opposite of being their true self.

We need to be honest, what we are talking about is PLASTIC SURGERY. The same people that would scoff in horror at the latest celebrity's attempt to change themselves rabidly applaud young people's rejection of themselves and the surgeries follow.

If I got a nose job it would be seen as vanity. If I got a double mastectomy, for aesthetic reasons only, it would be seen as "brave". Madness.

I strongly agree with you, but: Left to my unthinking urges I am 'naturaly' a fat blob, a state where I feel self loathing and unlovable. So I moderate my diet and change my habits to exercise more. It does leave me with a healthy body, but it's largely vanity. Trying to see diff

Perhaps the clue for you is, as you say, ‘your unthinking urges' require you to reflect on your actions or you won’t be happy with the results. As adults we have the capacity to think about what we do
