Children are highly suggestible. The idea that “if you don’t affirm and transition dysphoric kids, they’ll kill themselves” is nothing but fearmongering. If it were true, there would be a plethora of dead trans kids from the days prior to the availability of medical transition.

It's a form of emotional blackmail and a very dishonest one too.

It's also very dangerous. The people who parrot it are harming the very kids they claim to wish to protect.

When I was a child and thought I should have been a boy, I prayed to wake up miraculously transformed, I felt shame and embarrassment in dresses, and I imagined that I must be the only kid who ever felt that way, but I never once thought of killing myself, ever.

I had to double check that I didn't write this because it is so close to my own experience. I grew out of my gender dysmorphia.

Suggesting children might commit suicide is also setting up an expectation for so called "trans" kids themselves.

I’m not surprised. I remember guides on Tumblr and other blogds that instructed dysphoric kids on what to say at their gender clinic in order to get HRT. ie. “say you’ve had dysphoria for as long as you remember,” and “say your dysphoria is making you suicidal.”

Thank you for saying this. Somebody recently analyzed the data about trans suicides and concluded that it was a bit inflated (at 40%) yet its still used routinely as the main reason that affirmation is the only way to keep your kid alive.I have to find it and post it...

I've never seen good statistics either way Anything to do with the trans community is solely lacking in reliabile data Especially long term consequences of chemical intervention

I think that's the trans lobby's argument, though, there are a plethora of dead trans kids from the days prior to the availability of medical transition. We just didn't identify or document them as trans. Trans existed even before its own cultural construction.

We were taught about transsexuals in medical school decades ago Nothing like what has happened in the last decade though Gender was another word for sex
