I’m not a member of any community because I don’t like the Us vs Them mentality. The more people retreat into or rely on groups, the less willing they become to engage with the “other.” When they do engage, it’s a petty back-and-forth that achieves nothing. 1/6

If you can’t remain civil for the span of a conversation, you’re not going to achieve anything. If you try to rally your group to go after the “other,” you’re hurting everyone involved. Resorting to insult or celebrating censorship isn't “one-upping” anybody. 3/6

I’m guilty of falling into the Us vs Them mentality now and again. As a detransitioner, it’s easy for me to get defensive when a TRA dismisses my experiences. I try to remain civil and engage and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But I’ve been trying to understand. 4/6

I now know why some of them dismiss me – not because they hate me, but because they’re afraid of what I represent. They fear the “detrans community” will become a weapon against the “trans community.” I don't think there should be a trans or detrans community. 5/6

I think there should be support for dysphoric individuals, persisted or desisted. We should be able to have conversations about transition, even if what others say doesn’t always match your experiences. We should be able to agree to disagree. We should work together. 6/6
