My country is very secular, so I’ve yet to meet a trans person here with a story like yours. But I agree, even here, transition seems to be used as an obvious escape route for other underlying problems. It's all very sad, really.

That’s just awful. Obviously I’m not saying homophobia and racism doesn’t happen in Scotland, it certainly does, but it normally stems from general arseholery rather than religious belief.
