I did. During the discussion of risks with my psychiatrist he mentioned acne, hairloss, deepening voice etc. He did not mentioned atrophy. I was not informed that that was a possibility.

That’s interesting. Last I heard there weren’t informed consent clinics in the UK and you had to go through the NHS with wait times from 2-3 years.

It is through the NHS. You still have to sign an informed consent form. I can’t speak to what the waiting times are now, but back in 2014 the wait was 12 to 13 months.

And you were psychiatrically evaluated too? Informed consent moreso refers to you walk into a clinic, sign a form, and get HRT. I’m not sure what the medical care in the UK is like but you didn’t think to google the effects?

I was seen 3 times by a psychiatrist, got bloodwork etc. I googled the effects before my referral but I’d never heard of atrophy before. There’s much we don’t know about longterm T use by females, so I concede the clinic may not have told me simply because they didn’t know then.

Yea I think a lot of HRT effects are unknown mostly cause trans ppl are an understudied population and we suffer the effects of that, both trans and detrans ppl. It sucks, especially considering doctors seem largely apathetic to ppl taking HRT

On that, we agree. I have trans friends who haven’t been seen at their clinics for their hormone levels checks for up to a year. Both trans and detrans people deserve better treatment than this.

My doctor continually refuses to check my hormone levels. He says I should just “see if the effects feel right and not focus on numbers”

Your doctor is an arsehole, he's completely hand-waveing aside you’re wellbeing. Are you able to see another doctor, or ask instead for a nurse?

He just told me last appointment I’m able to get my own blood tests done with the in-house lab so that’s what I’ve been doing

That’s something, at least. Clearly, we don’t agree on everything, but I do genuinely wish you well with your transition.

Thank you! I appreciate the insight you’ve given and I’m sorry transitioning didn’t work out for you. I understand detrans ppl are often not listened to in the trans community and it can be incredibly disheartening
