Tribalism is Human Nature (w/ & ) now published in Current Directions: We argue that people evolved to be tribal and thus *all* political groups (even libs) are susceptible to biased evaluations of politically relevant information.

When others disagree with our personal beliefs, we get frustrated, disturbed, and upset *not* because of their different beliefs per se, but because we hate when other people are wrong:

My first appearance on a podcast! Thanks to & for having me on to debate whether there’s a liberal bias in social science and whether we can/should remove moral concerns from research. We didn’t always agree...Here’s a fun trimmed teaser:

Agree or disagree? With time, citation rates across papers (but within disciplines) are correlated with relative quality/importance. (I.e., ignoring citation rate differences across research disciplines, better papers are generally more likely to be cited)

Bad news for meta-analyses: Comparing 15 meta-analyses to multi-lab replication attempts of the same effects, on average, meta-analytic effect sizes are almost three times as large as replication effect sizes.

Apparently Twitter is removing audience insights analytics on Jan 30, so if you want to know about your audience, now might be your last chance (click More>Analytics>Audiences). Mine are particularly interested in science and politics and particularly not interested in comedy 🤔

I've long suspected that only a small minority of academics oppose free inquiry & genuine pursuit of truth. The larger problem is that when those mini-groups ferociously try to shut it down, the majority stays silent because it is not worth the personal risk to try to stop them.
