Listening is a literacy strand; so is reading. They are both receptive skills, but require different levels of cognition. Reading is better for retention and comprehension. They are not the same thing.

There is a lot of ableism in your statement here.

Although, it is much easier to multitask and not absorb as much of the material.

That completely depends on your brain

Same with ebooks. Some people have hard time with printed text, and ebook devices give them the option to increase/decrease brightness, font size etc. and the option to look up meanings of words in real time. People can be so judgmental.
-
I remember being a child, seeing the single shelf of large print books at the library, and thinking that it would be hard to get older and not have anything good to read in retirement. It's pretty awesome how many more texts are accessible to people with visual impairments now.

Considering it costs around 35k to have a book transcribed into braille, having free access is incredible.

This happens SO much on here when it comes to e- and audiobooks and it's so frustrating. "But I looooove the smell of paper, I only lovvvvvve real books". Well, so did I, until I started losing my eyesight. Reading is what matters, not how you do it. People need to think. :/
-
And I mean, if people love the tactile experience of a paper book, that's great! Enjoy! But it's not a moral argument, and it irritates me when people advance it as though it is. I'm a librarian. I'm just happy people are reading (and I go through dozens of audiobooks a year).
