Omg! Wasn’t it amazing?! I’ve watched it three times.

I think the point is that Burr doesn't have goals he wants to achieve for the country. What he wants is power for power's sake, to be in the "room where it happens." The other characters want power so they can change things.

Yeah, that was the way I took it, too, combined more personally with Hamilton's general dislike for Burr and frustration over him not taking the stands he did... I still find it the opposite of a compelling moral stance, though.

I looked at it back in 2016 as the choice between the person where I disagreed with her hawkishness but could see the possibility of working with her, and the hollow blowhard (while Trump radiated racism, ablism, and misogyny, his pre-election POLICY and PLATFORM was empty.)

I mean yes, but I think we can also summise the guy who was so pissed about losing he shot the guy who didn't endorse him rather than be introspective about it for 5 seconds probably would have been a bad President.

The historical events are more naunced than the musical depicted. It was 4 years after the election that the duel was fought, during which Burr dueled with Angelica’s husband, founded a water company that was secretly a bank to weaken Ham and lost election as NY Gov due to Ham.

"am I the only one who cares that history has its eyes on us?!"

I think the play does a pretty compelling job of portraying Hamilton's decision making as being permanently compromised politically and interpersonally after he's confronted with the accusations of embezzlement. But yeah, especially now, not a great call.
