This new resolution talks about white supremacy and white nationalism four times. The previous resolution did not make any mention of those hateful ideologies — which are to blame for rise of antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and other bigotry in this country.
It is not a perfect resolution. Its timing still clearly associates it as a rebuke to @IlhanMN. It, unfortunately, enshrines US support for the Israeli government, which maintains the fifty-one-year military occupation of the West Bank and siege of the Gaza Strip.
But three days ago, it seemed inevitable that Speaker Pelosi and Democratic Leadership were going to allow conservative members of their caucus publicly weaponize antisemitism to intimidate a member of their own caucus because of opposition to Israeli policy. And today...
...today, because our community came together with support from allied elected officials — like @SenSanders and @SenWarren — we have a resolution that condemns antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and all forms of bigotry.
We are in a new era where criticism of unjust Israeli policies is not simply equated with antisemitism. That is a victory.
We're deeply concerned about rising antisemitism in this country and will continue to work with progressive allies in every community to fight it, by ensuring freedom and dignity for all Americans, Israelis, and Palestinians.
