On reflection, I'm glad we pivoted. It's much easier to state the value of the community.
Since, the pivot, here's FlowHuddle's 2022 by the numbers:
๐ป 44 virtual events
๐ฅ 19 new members
๐ 1 in-person meetup
๐ฏ My main goal for 2023 is to grow the number of new members!

Around this time, I was roasted by . He pointed out that the community's not targeted at anyone.
I'd made the mistake of 'staying broad' to help everyone - but actually it meant I wasn't able to provide value to anyone.

I promoted FlowHuddle on my socials, meaning that aspiring lawyers (who make up most of my online network) ended up joining.
These members were the most engaged and some began to meet up in real life.
They formed bonds over trying to break into a career in law.

FlowHuddle was originally a 'co-working club'.
Simple, but it meant that, aside from an interest in online co-working, members didn't necessarily have anything in common.
It made it difficult to provide any additional value as people didn't necessarily have common challenges.

Since I made this post many months ago, things have changed a lot at FlowHuddle (including a huge pivot).

@FlowHuddle hit 50 mailing list sign-ups today.
That's the target I'd set myself to "prove the concept" before adding features to the website (sign-up page, community space...)
Guess I've got to get started on those now...

I bought the domain name as a fun home to start experimenting with a new tool I wanted to check out (h/t ).

I was pushed out of my comfort zone of 'likes' and forced to join conversations. I connected with people and got into longer discussions.
So, while I'm lifting the ban on likes, I'm gonna keep up the replies too!
It's more fun this way.

These stats are just an objective way to measure the experiment.
They don't necessarily mean that I enjoyed my time more or that I felt I made any 'deeper connection'.
But I did genuinely enjoy it more!

Last week, I ran an experiment on Twitter to see if I could genuinely connect with more people. ๐งช
The rule was simple.
I banned myself from liking tweets. โ
If I wanted to engage with a tweet, I could only reply to it.
Here are the results ๐

I usually just lurk on Twitter. But I love seeing the engagement that takes place here.
I'm going to try this experiment for a week! No liking tweets, just commenting.
Let's see how it goes...

Now it's just up to me to do some more marketing to try and grow the community.
Tribe's been great (h/t ) and I'm enjoying learning this new game of community building.
Hopefully I'll be able to grow beyond the free tier limits soon!

It was a fun experience.
I genuinely tried to give an honest and valuable answer to the initial post.
This taught me that engaging by providing valuable content (not just 'marketing patter') can help spread a message much, much further (although not as far as I thought lol).

While I was really excited at first, once it made it on on the homepage, the post didn't perform too well.
It got a few comments and some up votes.
However, it did get a few new signups from people all over the world (USA, India, Poland).

And then got featured on the website's homepage...
(the guy really didn't want to get my name right)

So I did just that.
I took my comment, reformatted it and added a sufficiently 'clickbaity' title.

On the website, I saw a post asking for everyone's best productivity tips.
I responded discussing the benefit that I found in combining time blocking and co-working, and how this has helped me get more done in less time.

For this week, I'm planning to create a custom "timer video" on Final Cut which runs just for the 50-minute work session.
I won't set a timer for the break.
Then I'll restart the timer video for the next session!

But the timer I used had a 10-minute countdown for the break, which made it less relaxing ๐

My Thoughts...
โ
Timing (Saturday morning) and duration (2 hours) worked well
โ
Fewer attendees meant that I was able to chat to everyone individually
