If I told them just get a credit card they would be well within their rights to respond “F.U. Dr. D” but I just deal with actual students on a daily basis so what would I know about these issues?

For an economist you show a surprising lack of understanding of how the economy works and functions for the non-wealthy.

Perhaps you might give those students the same consideration and treatment you wish to have given to you? Not dismiss their concerns and opinions out of hand. What do you think
@MichaelRStrain? Worth considering?1 reply 0 retweets 7 likes -
I fully recognize that many college students are in situations of significant financial hardship. I was merely asking whether a student who faces a $200 unexpected expense might take on additional debt rather than drop out of college, given the college earnings premium.

Were you asking? Because the answer is they can’t. Many of them don’t have the ability to take on more debt. They are already drowning in CC debt. Many of today’s college students aren’t having anything paid for by their parents. Some are helping to support parents or siblings.

Was it really a sincere question or a snide remark? Because the way you double downed when folks told you some students are literally already homeless... Many college students can’t say “well I’ll make it back statistically in 3 years” because they have to pay the bills now.

Read what I actually tweeted. I don’t think it can be reasonably described as mocking anyone.

Sure would be nice if you had some platform to say “actually they can’t get a credit card, I’ve learned...maybe we should address this issue as it harms our economy” .... some platform where you had over 7000 followers....

It seems a few more tweets would be an easy way to show A) you were sincere. B) you learned something C) you weren’t mocking anyone. D) the only victims in this are the students who are dropping out of college.

(A) should be assumed. (C) is clearly the reasonable interpretation if you read my tweets with even a tiny amount of charity. And on (B), I would be very happy to engage in a dialogue, but Twitter seems clearly not to welcome an honest exchange of views on this subject.
