1/ When I got close to the SoCal Muslim community, I was surprised to see that women were often the most enthusiastic oppressors of other women. Dads/brothers often telling moms to lighten up on daughters, while mom pushes the men to be more concerned with family's honor.

I tried without avail to figure it out for years. It's partly women trying to prove their own piety/status by denouncing misbehavior in others, and I suspect that older women who've bowed to their oppression resent signs of freedom in younger women. Don't have it worked out, tho.

I'll also throw out the example of what women did to nuns during the French Revolution. Disgusting acts of violence that are well documented. How do we explain this? "Internalized misogyny"? Lol.

That's what Western psychologists would say ("identifying with the aggressor), but that's very unsatisfying IMO
