Me: We looked at these ANITA events and they can't be standard neutrinos. They were probably a result of our imperfect understanding of the Antarctic ice, but there's a chance some new physics phenomenon is responsible. Tabloids: PARALLEL UNIVERSE!!!

yeah, i hate all these sensationalized articles. they make it seem like the only explanation for these neutrinos is a parallel universe and it just seems silly. do you really think its just antarctic ice messing with the ANITA? what are some other hypotheses floating around?

So the way we discover things in physics is by disproving every benign possibility. Given that ice can provide a pretty good explanation, we cannot yet conclude new physics. But that doesn't stop physicists from dreaming coz once in a blue moon theyre right!

Gotta love it. Unexplained phenomena that doesn't fit into a physics interpretation gets put down to not understanding Antartic Ice.

Tbh im not the sciency type but a place where time flows backwards is impossible in my opinion. Time was created by humans to mark special events that needed to be remembered. No other living creature that we know of uses time.

Time was not created by humans. The way we measure time was created by us. And time running backwards doesn't seem impossible. It would likely be running forwards from the perspective of those within the universe, if said universe is real

I know enough physics to know that I barely know anything about it, but when I read the paper I didn’t think “parallel universe”, I thought it sounded like evidence of some weird, naturally occurring particle accelerator.
