When I finished the first draft of an essay in high school, I'd scan through it hoping it was long enough. Now when I finish a first draft I scroll through it hoping it's not too long.

4. Clear CTA If you're asking the recipient to put in a ton of work to respond ("Please fill out this form!"), you're making a mistake. If you're being passive ("let me know if this would be valuable") you're making a mistake. Define an easy next step and ask directly.

3. Short and conversational. It's simple: don't write like a bot. Write like you're writing to a friend. The more you write, the less likely you are to get a response.
