To counter the penchant for slicing and dicing, I put together a thread of Senator Harris' interviews/events/etc. People want to hear from her directly and she is working her tail off to deliver her message #ForThePeoplehttps://twitter.com/blackwomenviews/status/1120449932572409856?s=19 …

“Is it not the sign of a civil society that you allow people to earn their way back... do we need to strip them of everything? And I think... no.” Her words. I like too that she invoked a Christian value, redemption, with a sincerity that was not only believable but inspiring.

It’s a bad answer. The simple answer is yes.
-
No it isnt
-
Saying we need to have a conversation is a non-answer to a clearly yes or no question...
-
No it isn't. There is a conversation to be had about perhaps non-violent offenders having the right to vote. Maybe it depends on the severity of the crime. But to suggest that it's an easy answer is idiotic. It isn't.
-
She didn't make any specifics at all. If she had drawn distinctions between the type of incarcerated individuals who could vote then I would agree with you, but in no way did she do that. So she didn't answer the question...
-
Because she said there needs to be a damn conversation. I'm not going back and forth about this.
-
Saying there needs to be a conversation is a response in lieu of an answer. If you asked me about whether I favor public funded elections or the current system I may break down the type of public funded elections. I wouldn't say we need to discuss it...

We're done here.

I'm all for non violent offenders having a say but when it comes to murderers, terrorists, rapists & the like I don't feel they should have the right to vote. Why do they get to make a choice in who runs this country?
-
Actually once they served their time, it shouldn’t matter. The law applies to them? They need to have a say. Let’s not even begin to speak about the people framed for crimes. You want them to be deprived of civil rights as well, once they served time? If not, how do you do that?
-
During their prison sentence, it’s more the question of the validity of their votes. They aren’t free to use the toothbrush of their choice in prison - how can you expect them to vote freely?
-
Agree Ashley - for me anyone that has raped or murdered a child there is no "coming back"
-
That’s not the question. Are you 100% sure they did it? Ever heard of racial profiling? Even if they did - why are they out again? Either you lock them away and throw away the keys or you resocialise them.

She stated we should have a conversation about it. That's all. She's not insisting we just start giving murderers and rapists sitting in prison the right to vote. If we are going to discuss giving the vote to 16 yr olds of all people then it's worth at least discussing this.

She was asked if currently incarcerated Americans should be able to vote? A yes or no question. She said it needed to be discussed then talked about those who are no longer in prison. So she didn't answer the question... This is what you want to highlight about Kamala?

Seeing the world through a different lens. This is everything. What is the objective ? What is the desired outcome?

She clearly rejects the idea of stripping incarcerated felons of the right to vote.
