  3. All this to say: given the tight contest, and the deep anxiety and uncertainty we’re seeing from so many Iowans concerned with “electability,” I suspect realignment will be a big gamechanger tonight, especially in large precincts. And Warren may be best positioned to pounce. 5/5

  4. The reason Warren more than others could nab the “consensus candidate” lane is that she’s done less to antagonize various corners of the electorate. She’s liberal, yes, but unlike Sanders she hasn’t really gone at Biden, and Amy/Pete have both explicitly knocked the left. 4/

  5. I suspect Pete also hopes to fill a “consensus candidate” gap in realignment—and he may with some voters, especially older moderate ones—but in these large precincts, his challenge is winning over the younger, liberal, more diverse voters who so far have skewed Bernie/Warren. 3/

  6. Warren’s support targets also tend to look similar to Amy/Pete’s. So if there’s a scenario where they‘re both at 8-12% in larger city/suburb/campus precincts—as Bernie leads a first ballot with Warren second—can Warren vols sell her as the consensus candidate to deny Bernie? 2/

  7. One Iowa thing I’m watching tonight: has Warren established herself as the best-positioned candidate to make big moves in realignment? She’s spent the past 2 weeks hammering the need for party unity, right as 2016’s divisions reared their ugly heads. 1/

I’ll always cherish our August Iowa bus tour with . The optimism. Her love for the people. Their fondness for her in return. Sad there won’t be Kamala Corners tonight in the caucus, but proud of what she did. And ever heartened by Iowans’ sense of duty & patriotism.

This new podcast really captures the late-stage indecision and anxiety racking Iowa voters heading into the caucus. They really feel a sense of duty. Like whether Dems win the general election is their burden to bear. Listen. via

In 2016, the ABC, CBS and NBC nightly newscasts devoted 86 minutes of airtime to campaign coverage in the run-up to the Iowa caucuses. This year? About 10 minutes, per Andrew Tyndall. Impeachment had a clear impact...

Part of his rally stump speech is making fun of Biden for not knowing where he is and noting that “when you do that, you can’t really recover."

Bloomberg could easily drop millions on digital ads soliciting $1 donations & hit any threshold. money in politics is bad. it's very annoying that like rich guys can buy a spot on stage & Kamala, Cory, Kirsten, Julian, etc. had to drop out. but the DNC isn't 'rigging' anything.

Strange part about the “outrage” over changing the Nevada debate qualifications: everybody knows Bloomberg could’ve qualified for debates by now if he had even remotely tried to meet the donor threshold. So you have to assume he didn’t, and doesn’t, really want to be in them.

This is Elizabeth Warren’s best ad yet — by far. Demonstrating that she is best to defeat Trump has always been the last hurdle she needs to clear. What better way to do that than letting a 2016 Trump voter tell his story of why he’s now backing Warren?

What's so infuriating is that this just proves that Republican senators KNOW that Donald Trump did it. But they are knowingly giving him and all future presidents a green light to pressure foreign governments to interfere in our elections.

The whole storyline that Mitch's loyal deputy Lamar might cross Mitch on a vote Mitch was whipping feels like false suspense intended to take attention off vulnerable Republicans like Gardner and McSally who ought to be getting way more scrutiny for siding early with Trump.
