Is it a realistic possibility as a “clean” energy source? Also is it as “safe” as claimed? Thank you!

So Thorium Reactors still have a lot of engineering challenges which include lots of metallurgy and chemical engineering. Molten salt reactors -- and advanced nuclear fission more broadly -- would be the safest source of energy ever created.

Thank you, this is much needed. Small question, my husband tells me our island is to small for Thorium, 160k citizens, 80k houses. Is it really that you need a big population to make it work? I do have a double agenda, need to get Yang in the president seat, so we can copy him..

There are micro reactors in the works at the moment. Most do not use liquid fuel but they are very promising. But, it sounds like your island can be power by one or two small modular reactors, which is basically a normal nuclear power plant, but it was made in a factory.
