Maybe I should have made it more clear that I meant having more representation IN ADDITION to Simu, not INSTEAD of, but to me that is implied because, why would I want to silence the one Asian actor we have lol. 6/

I also included queer Asian men to play the role of Ken in the article, considering that the Barbie franchise is a big deal for the queer community. And for the most part, I was just regurgitated the suggestions of other people on Twitter with links to their Tweets 4/

For most of my childhood I could only name 2 famous Asian men: Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, and I could relate to neither of them. I don’t want Asian-American kids today to only be able to name one or two famous Asian men because that doesn’t feel like progress 3/

Hollywood and the entertainment industry has a history of choosing one underrepresented person and hiring them for every single role, when they seem to understand that there are many types of white people, but the same understanding does not exist for other ethnicities 2/

Ok, so Simu responded to this article I wrote for HuffPost and some people are up in arms about it. It's getting a little out of hand so let me just say first and foremost that I don’t think the idea that Hollywood is using Simu as a token actor should be a controversial take. 1/

Jordan Neely’s murder should remind us that the pretexts for lynchings often boiled down to discomfort felt by whites around Black people. Further, they weren’t done in secret. They were public spectacles, attended by white families for community building and lauded by newspapers

"...pink was the primary color of the Me Too movement, which Lagerfield frequently and publicly criticized. Like many other old, white men in the industry at the time, Lagerfeld characterized Me Too as some sort of witch hunt." I said what I said!

A Black boy goes to pick up his little brothers. He rings a doorbell or knocks at the door...and gets shot in the head. "There was a racial component to this case,'' the prosecutor says. When will this stop? When will our boys be safe?

"White journalists make up about half (53%) of those who report on social issues and policy, but they make up large majorities of the other 10 beats studied, including 84% of those who cover environment and energy."

Replying to @ElijahSchaffer
Japanese, like all Asian cultures, are taught from childhood to think in a "collective" way. A very cohesive social structure. Not so good, however, when that collective integrity is focused on a single individual, like emperor in WWII. Let's hope the Japanese learned better.

Wrote a story about Native American children in North Carolina who are being asked to cut their hair by the schools they attend.

The school system's policies prohibit “extreme” and “radical” haircuts. Extreme and radical to whom, exactly? huffpost.com/entry/native-a
