"those who challenge or dissent from the dominant discourse are invariably shut out. Egregiously, their work is usually deemed to be “low quality,” and will therefore tend to garner low REF scores."

Max Planck was the first established physicist to embrace Einstein's work on special relativity. He worked out some important consequences! Later, in 1914, Planck helped Einstein get a research position in Berlin. (1/n)

From the archives: How our immune systems fight off disease has long been the focus of immunology. But understanding how our bodies repair themselves is just as important in predicting who will recover from and infection and who won't.

Hundreds of billions of galaxies, billions of trillions of stars. On a magnitude beyond imagination. Do you think a being capable of creating all this would care who you sleep with or with who you fall in love?

I’m generally surprised and saddened to see many philosophers react to ideas with moral outrage rather than careful argumentation and exploration. The whole point of philosophy is to challenge, provoke, and wrestle with ideas.

The authors have figured out how to estimate the age of mutations and have posted a public database with the age of 45 million SNPs. I predict that all around the country, urgent projects are being put aside so ancient genomics people can play with it.

Happy Monday, Y'all! A quote to start the week off well: "If anyone speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you, but answer: 'He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone'." --Epictetus

Call me crazy, but calling things "genocide" that aren't genocide is a really ridiculous thing to do.

Direct quotes: > "mathematics operates as whiteness" > "In the end, students...questioned the idea that mathematics is politically neutral" Arguing that the blog is just about the "history of mathematics" is a classic motte & bailey.

Progressives: If a man smiles at a woman in a public place she has good reason to think she's about to be raped and dismembered Also progressives: Oh you don't want males around when you take off your pants to pee in an isolated area? LOL what a victim
