I hate what Ellen did. She basically used her privilege and power while being largely known as a member in the LGBTQ to basically say well “I’m not offended”, when it’s not about her. He showed he was still homophobic when he refused to offer an actual apology!

Love this. I’d also say it was not her place to forgive him on behalf of gay *men.* His violent and hateful comments were never toward gay women. Ellen has no clue what it’s like to be bullied and beaten by all the Kevins throughout childhood for being effeminate.
-
Yeah lol no lesbians are ever bullied or made fun of or beaten

-
yeah i laughed when he said tht too Laura lol. also i love how their painting Kevin to be homophobic, i think i know him a little better then they do bet half them haven’t even been a fan for years. sincerely, a gay black man

I am the SAME way. Same. I think my voice sounds like I’m gargling dick-sized marbles, but people say video would be good for me so lol. And YES. Still upset we missed each other when you were last here

I’ll be visiting soon. But looking into permanent residence around August

And Ellen wasn’t harmed of homophobia??!!! This is outrageous!!!!
-
Nuance, Liz. Ellen’s experience of homophobia will be very different narrative for LGBTQ of colour. To conflate them is naive, revisionist, disingenuous or just ignorant. Women’s rights vs Women of colour rights. It’s a thing. If you can’t speak from experience, ask.
-
Shouldn't matter it's a community that was offended as a whole not just one sect of it. That's the problem with the LGBTQ community in how they react and act towards these things in telling people who can and can't be offended and what can and can't offend them.
-
Speaking as an authority & member of the LGBTQ community, i'm sure. The conversation is, can & should be more nuanced. One size DOESN'T fit all I would not accept an apology on behalf of another marginalised group simply because I am. Listen to understand not just respond

-
Respond however you want just don't tell me how to receive a non apology from a non reformed perpetrator AND, more importantly, don't accept the apology on my behalf. My struggle, my story, my hustle ISN'T yours. As you were, LGBTQ scholar. I'm good.
-
I think the point was that ALL members of the LGBTQ community are impacted when any subset of the group is targeted. We may not experience it the exact same way (women vs men, black people vs white people, etc) but it’s still a collective feeling we can all relate to.
-
I don’t get the sense that Ellen was attempting to accept an apology on your behalf. I think she was simply pointing out that real progress requires both an apology AND forgiveness.
-
Ellen- “You have grown, you have apologized, you are apologizing again right now. You’re done it. Don’t let those people win — host the Oscars"

I'm a straight woman & even I knew that his non-apology was BS. And no matter if Ellen is gay or not, she is still wrapped in her privilege & what I didn't care for was her going to the Academy on his behalf and discounting his attitude and the negative effect it has on LBGTQ's
-
He already apologized when it happened originally years ago. How many times should someone apologize just to make people happy? Basically people wanted a fake apology to fit their narrative and appease people that are crying over long since spilled milk.
-
Apologies without action are meaningless. Apologies that put the responsibility of harm on the person harmed are meaningless. “I’m sorry you’re offended” isn’t a real apology. The world is still dangerous for gay people. He doesn’t seem to get that.
-
There was action, he stopped making those jokes and apologized, he hasn’t -to my knowledge- crosses that line again. Not much more he could do.
-
not much more he can do?
