“poor craftsman blames his tools” – interpretations: common: a pro can use any shit correct: a pro takes pride in tooling; ensures it fits

Still continually enjoying the way the Dark people keep developing their product, and especially how they communicate about it. Recommend checking it out:

The battle of the last century was nuclear energy versus coal. Outside of France, where they built reactors and cut CO2 emissions in half in a decade? Coal won, hands-down. The battle of this century is nuclear and renewables versus gas.

Here's the relevant pamphlet: It recommends soldiers should probably not use their personal helicopters within city limits and speculates on which airplane models would be commercially available to individuals

Possibly the most important idea from Lisp and its descendents - even bigger than code-is-data-is-code - is that developing a computer program should be an exercise of *interacting* with the code as it grows and evolves, not just "writing"

So, going back to the original point: A monad is a transformation on types that follows the "functor rules" and where applying the transformation multiple times can be "collapsed" to applying it once. So you can turn a list of list of list of... x into a siingle list of x

And now you know what "a monad is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors" ACTUALLY means! (Well, most of it. There's some technical detail. Please don't kill me, math people)

For instance, a list of lists can be turned into a single list by concatenating all the lists in the bigger list! A lot of languages have this is `concat` which is just a special case of using a monad

A monad is a functor where applying the functor multiple times is equivalent to applying it only once in some sense. In other terms, it means that if you have a `List of List of x` you can turn that into a `List of x`. This is usually called `join`, but it has many names!

OK, seriouslly now: "A monad is a monoid in the category of endofunctors" just means that a monad is a functor that composes with itself. A functor is a thing that transforms types into other types according to certain rules. so `List of x` is a functor applied to x

A position I think should exist at medium-sized to large companies: the Intro Concierge. "IC, who is the best person internally to ask about credit risk in Southeast Asia?" "IC, need a warm intro to a a VC specializing in healthcare SaaS."

Is it surprising tho? Seems to me like the time-delay EA trajectory they’re on for everything. BF3 already did the “diminished gameplay, a few more shader effects, web server browser” bullshit just about 8 years ago.
