White women have benefited from diversity initiatives for a long time, & very often once they get on the ladder they pull that ladder up behind them. They often don't recognize women of color as part of them. We are the "other". So this article above is not just relevant

for those in the business and tech world, this is very true in academia. Now, there are times when a WW is just right for the job but if a job is specifying it's a diversity hire and they hire a white woman you know they are full of shit and the system is going to remain rigged

and stacked against women of color, especially Black women. I won't name any schools that have done this but this happens way too often and either no one is saying anything or no one gives a shit. Everyone is hungry for a job nowadays but just know that white women ≠ diversity.

You do realize that a white woman IS believed to be a "diversity" hire to a cadre of old white men who feel magnanimous about letting women write about Hildegard of Bingen.

That's the point of my anecdote. All the women in my department were white, so the old, white man was telling me that that WAS diversity. Also, this is replicating itself in my generation so we're fucked.

All of this. When I was applying to PhD programs, I was repeatedly told I should focus on ME or SE Asian Theatre because WOC don’t study 19th C Burlesque & Vaudeville.?
