I voted NO and now I want to change my vote = I voted no because who cares about PoC/marginalized voices dignity and safety, but hear hear, I want to switch my vote thanks to all the white people and big names in the field who have convinced me that times have changed. 2/10

Some of us have been saying for years that the field was rampant with racism. We have experienced, as our brothers and sisters in other fields have, blatant racism, as well as micro/macroaggressions for years. Stealth racism we experience would make some of your heads spin. 3/

Others have stayed quiet (I used to) internalizing all this racism &letting it affect your health, well-being, mental state etc. This is not a criticism of those who stay quiet. It is self preservation and sometimes it works, albeit at a cost. ASS loves model minorities. 4/10

But I think you need to keep hearing our stories. The fact that it took white people to convince some of you to vote YES or be sad about voting NO means something is wrong. The MOC org was accused of mischaracterizing ISAS/ASS and whiteness has never been endorsed. 5/10

The fact that my voice and others is not enough and that white people need convincing by white people means that whiteness is ALWAYS endorsed in ASS and ISAS. The board was open to listening but so slow to respond while those of us directly affected continued to be damaged. 6/10

Waiting is okay when these issues don't affect you personally. This goes for the sexual harassment/harassment policy. That issue should have been met with speed. But I want to reiterate that ASS and ISAS have always endorsed whiteness. Always. 7/10pic.twitter.com/mCiXbJPxAA

I applaud and thank those who have spoken up for change, and used your voices in whatever capacity. Your voice still matters. Don't stop, but make no mistake that your voice matters more than mine and others like me. You also have work to do to change this. 8/10

Change the way you see the world. Start listening to marginalized community members. Be open. I think people need to start hearing our stories. My academic family has been speaking about this for years. @adam_miya

I'll start: I lost out on a job and the deciding factor was "we don't know how to justify to students YOU are an Anglo-Saxonist."
