Every time I enter the tankie blogosphere I see anecdotes of an unspoken, ideological diaspora where supposedly anarchists are (specifically) becoming maoists en masse. Why is that?

The social anarchist tradition has historically appealed to those interested in bottom-up methods of organization; anyone can tell you how much this is embodied in whatever comes to mind when you hear the term, "direct action"

Maoism appeals to social anarchists because they haven't completely transitioned from wanting "one big union" to a "union of egoists"; at the end of the day they're just a bunch of liberals who enjoy policing the masses with their workerist sensibilities.

I can believe the anecdotes of this so-called anarchist -> maoist conversion, because not all anarchists care for the post-left tradition; the absence of a coherent strategy among communization currents has additionally left folks with a sense of revolutionary despair.

Things like the "Mass Line" and "People's War" are nothing but pretty-sounding terms; since post-'68 we've seen MLMs having really catchy slogans where for a time, prominent western thinkers had a vested interest in fusing maoist and anarchist practices.

I also think anti soviet sentiment plays a part in it considering the sino soviet split and all. I’ve noticed tanks complain about these anarcho maoist also
