    I share the sadness at the passing of Thorvald who was a role model of professionalism and dedication.

    I am deeply saddened by my dear friend Thorvald Stoltenberg’s passing. A man of great warmth, he always acted with compassion, humility and a great sense of humour. He was an exemplary leader for his country Norway & the UN. My thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad time.

    In my meeting with PM Fayez al-Sarraj I appealed that migrants brought back to shore or rescued by the Coast Guard not be put into detention centers. Those who wish to go home should be voluntarily returned to their countries of origins rather than linger in detention.
