Calling people, I'm trying to come up with a relatable way to quantify how much "a quintillion" really is to students. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  11. Revisionist history is not just changing history, but not telling it. In Hungary Teachers are using the hashtag (mostly on FB) to stand against the new teaching curriculum that leaves out Hungary's only Nobel prize winner for writing (a Jewish Holocaust survivor) but 1/

The shame of putting what appears to be an Indigenous girl on the cover of WIZARD OF OZ .... a book written by a virulent racist who wrote longingly about the genocide of Indigenous people. Whew. Just whew.

I love Moby Dick. But instead of buying a copy like this, I recommend Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. Instead of this copy of Alice in Wonderland, try Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney. Instead of this copy of Jekyll and Hyde, try, well, anything by Victor LaValle.

Publishing folks, librarians, educators: Please read this excellent thread from on this deeply tone-deaf and superficial nod to diversity in publishing. When we call for more diverse books, this is not what it's about. At all.

The curriculum lists Ferenc Herczeg, supporter of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini among the most important authors. It has no mention of Hungary’s only Nobel-winning author, Imre Kertész, who was honored for his book on the Holocaust.

This makes no goddamn sense unless you’re just repackaging public domain texts so that you can make more money off them instead of paying for and promoting works by actual marginalized voices that the publishing industry has ignored for decades. Oh.
