I argue something like this in a piece forthcoming in . Agency is a set of skills we learn. Learning to use a medical device or living with an intervention can be a challenge for, or means of cultivating, our agential skills.

"Stigma is fundamentally social. Although we often speak colloquially of pain, or illnesses like HIV/AIDS, stigmatizing people, that isn’t correct. It is always people who stigmatize other people. We do this to each other."

What is a "responsible death," really? Are the ethics so clear? Here's one case, considered by Arthur Frank.

How does this differ around the world? Are there settings in which doctor burnout takes other forms? What helps eliminate this one? Do for profit hospitals run staffing levels too small for good care? Do providers-as-employees DESERVE a good working environment?

This one drives me . We need to be VERY clear whether we're addressing healthcare outcomes, or health outcomes. These. Are. Not. The Same.

*whispers* Training NPs & PAs is *not* undercutting the supply of physicians. Helpful to consider the history of physician professionalization. Professional associations stressed limiting the supply of physicians (& excluding entire groups) to keep wages up.

Internalized ableism has generally been more crippling for me than my actual disability over the last twenty-ish years. Grateful for a lot of work over the past few years to start to recognize and unlearn this particular flavor of learned shame.

The outrageousness of the claim that "racism protected Black Americans from opioids." I am a core expert on & and I GUARANTEE you Black people have over the arc of US hist been harmed FAR more by racism in pain contexts than they've been helped.

Is it wrong to link refills of birth control to coming in for a yearly "well woman" visit which always includes pap smear, as well as breast exams? Delston argues that it is: results in more false positives, unnecessary follow-up and worry, etc.
