Burden sharing among @NATO allies is not as straightforward as Trump makes it out to be. The US is principally spending its money for its own security needs, according to IISS data: https://go.iiss.org/NATOsummit18  #NATOSummitpic.twitter.com/pHcSoWB6QR

maybe instead of @NATO members spending more, US should spend less? why do we need to spend so much on the military when there are so many social needs?

This is not the way to look at Nato. Do you think the Soviet Union thought US would spend only 5% to eliminate a threat? Obviously in case of threat US is forced to devote 100% of its military by art. 5 https://twitter.com/iiss_org/status/1016339935450759168?s=21 …

And, fundamentally more important than spending levels is the US nuclear umbrella. That's why Germany never developed nukes. And the umbrella means that any attack on Estonia will immediately involve troops from a major nuclear power. Credible deterrent.

It’s just too bad that the current President lives in a fact-free fantasyland. He acts like a gangster shaking down the grocer for protection money.

Let's also not forget weapon systems bought from U.S suppliers by European allies - essentially subsidising production costs for the US military & creating American jobs. Such as many 100'ds of fighter jets of the years.
