    These families often include US-born children who could be negatively impacted if they do not receive the benefits they are eligible for. CA, TX, FL, IL, & NY have the largest numbers of U.S. citizen children who live in immigrant families that receive assistance.

    The new "public charge" rule will go into effect on Feb. 24 & will penalize immigrants who use certain public benefits. As a result, many immigrant families may choose not to receive the assistance (e.g., food stamps & subsidized health insurance) they need and are eligible for.

    2/2 Immigrants coming from 3 of the countries are much more likely to hold a BA or greater compared to all other foreign born. 59% of foreign-born Nigerians, 38% of Sudanese immigrants and 53% of foreign-born from Tanzania hold a BA degree or higher.
