One of the funniest things about Incels to me is their apparent conviction that an "inferior" woman looks like Audrey Hepburnpic.twitter.com/rKXWM1j3gf

social dysfunction and loneliness increase your odds of becoming a mass killer and your odds of browsing web forums for lonely socially dysfunctional people. If anyone is interested in how I came to this conclusion it's called thinking and not reading listicle-tier journalism
I do understand "how it happens." I don't understand why we haven't had larger societal conversations about intervention. I don't get how people are ~just now~ starting to realize these online cesspools exist. Some of us have been warning about it for years.
I'm also not sure there's data to support the suggestion that "social dysfunction and loneliness" make one likelier to become a mass killer. Statistically, mass killers are most likely to be younger white men, but this cohort is no more likely to deal with the problems you cite.
better monitor spaces where young white men talk online. make sure they use their real identities so [unidentified trusted party] can intervene and take [unspecified action] when they show signs of uh incel thought
Or here's an idea: maybe their parents could inoculate them against Incel bullshit by having difficult conversations about toxic masculinity, internet communities to avoid, and the importance of affirmative consent. That's what I did with my "socially dysfunctional" kid.
maybe. since it's like a one in a million chance that anyone becomes a mass killer I just won't do anything tbh
"Mass killer" isn't the only concern. I also don't want my kid to be an asshole, more generally. For example, I don't want them to be a Nazi, regardless of whether they ever commit physical violence. I want them to understand how to assess claims and to recognize groupthink.
Independent thought is great except when it turns into obsession and self-deception. Challenging what they believe seems good, even if the result isn't that their beliefs match yours. Idk, I haven't given much real thought to how I would parent
