McCarthy’s The Road is grim reading. I’m fond of post-apocalyptic fiction, especially the “competence porn” elements, but competence is to no avail for McCarthy’s protagonist. amazon.com/Cormac-McCarth

That amazing but horrifying book should come with a warning label stating it can only be read during summer time!

It’s so grim, but so good. I’m not sure I could stomach reading it again now that I’m a father.

It’s very very dark. Right up there with Handmaids Tale (which is even grimmer in recent video series form)

Funny. Just listened to the audiobook of "The Road" and gave my girlfriend a copy of "One Second After," also on youtube.
For folks not familiar with "The Road" here is the audiobook. youtube.com/watch?v=3qhNbq
Would live to find a copy of "The Canadian."

If you liked The Road, check out Suttree and Blood Meridien-they are his masterpieces. Up there with the best of Faulkner, Proust, and Morrison.

Check out Alas Babylon, The Earth Abides, and Lucifers Hammer… I love that genre.

It was a dark read, but awesome. There's no joy there. The movie was ok but failed to capture the book well enough. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

My favorite writer. The Road shows his ability to create beauty with language even when describing utter bleakness.
