How much dev experience would you say one needs to be to read this book? Your intro got me very interested, and I have 10+ years in IT, but I'm not a developer by any means...

Thank you guys so much! 25 years ago, the game you guys made changed my life forever. It shifted my interest (and respect) as a designer from turn based to action and my interest as a developer towards real-time simulations (and rendering).

I was a lost soul before Doom and I was so sucked into id games that it change my life. From obsessing all that was id, meeting new friends from the Quake community via IRC it spiked my creative interest in editing levels and coding. id University degree right here, thank you!

I should also point out, I got in some trouble as a teen. Doom and gaming kept me indoors, out of trouble, and provided an entirely new group of people to associate with. Changed my life for the better.

The legend. Thank you and your colleagues for your work that certainly solidified my love of gaming and multiplayer competition online. I should point out this love of gaming and LAN parties, facilitated my interest in IT and I now work in the field. Thank you John.

I really like the last sentence. I think that the main reason why some games age better than others is the design choices (in all aspects: gameplay, graphics, sound etc.) and how well they work with the tech limitations.
