I don't understand why xprizes all have qualifying stages and long development times, it just seems to ensure fewer teams can compete.

Not to be flippant, but I’m far more concerned with trying to reverse global warming than enabling space tourism. I think that would be a better use of our leading-edge scientific thought and innovation.

Tourism seems to be the hook to get companies on board now. In the long term off shoring mining and heavy industry would massively improve our environment

In hindsight, it seems that suborbital-to-orbital was the wrong incremental development path, and the prize promoted misallocation of resources.
