Like a light - maybe a red one. On the hood. Maybe it could move side to side? Just brainstorming here...
-
Maybe cars should have a loud speaker on them so they can say "excuse me" or "I don't think that's a good idea". Needs to be a calm voice, maybe someone like William Daniels?
-
Sorry, William's not available right now. I have <flips through rolodex> Anthony or Stormy?

Waving pedestrians and cyclists through can be dangerous; if you have the right of way you should take it.
-
I imagine this is for when pedestrians have the right of way, but are nervous the car either doesn't see them or doesn't know the peds have the right of way. Just like with people-driven cars now.
-
Yeah I like the feedback idea. Just pointing out the "wave of death" because I see it all the time while cycling and walking. Just a few hours ago a driver tried to wave me into oncoming traffic and got visibly frustrated when I just kept patiently looking both ways.

It's smiling, but the eyebrows angled down at the same time means it's evil or a predator. Why didn't they pick a beetle, or some other car with happy friendly headlights?

I love the idea of self driving cars all having eyeballs.

Good idea but also creepy. Automatons acknowledging me without my willing activation is freaky.
-
-
A crossing sign is not an automaton sentient of it's surroundings. This a truncated version of my retweet, which refers to robots in toy stores acknowledging my presence without my activation. If I press a button for the crosswalk, I activate it.
-
If you're referring to Carmack's original tweet, what about yield signs and areas without electronic crossing signs?
-
I read the word 'automaton' in your tweet as 'automation'. I agree that cars signaling ppl to cross is an issue, for lots of reasons, I've just been puzzled that so many ppl focus in on the thought of being given a signal to cross by a machine.
-
Another huge issue is that visual cues won't work for everyone - such as ppl who are blind or visually impaired. And you are spot on about areas w/o crossing lights, too.
-
Thanks for not battling me. For real, you're cool. This is how we solve problems. Maybe the cars should just shoot water cannons.
-
You're cool, too. I'll never understand why ppl don't just admit when they've misunderstood or misread something. Water cannons would be hilarious! I'd love a car that blew bubbles, too.
