Exactly! People ask me frequently, what is the difference? Here is my answer: a mentor talks to you, a sponsor talks about you. Important to have both but a sponsor much more important in academic advancement.

Thanks Jen, the more we (men in positions of power) sponsor bright women like you the faster the glass ceiling will be shattered. I think sponsorship and “moving out of the way” are the two most critical things we can do to advance gender equity in academic medicine
